2026 UPDATES!
GO BIG TACTICAL ELR Program League
- The league will last 13 months starting September 2026 finishing September 2027, points will then be tallied up and the winners will have an account registered with GO BIG TACTICAL for the credit amounts as follows… 1st place = $500 / 2nd place = $300 / 3rd place = $200
- The league is FREE for anyone to join at any time at any practice.
- There are no calibre or equipment restrictions other than the rifle must be a Centerfire bolt action with scope.
- Only 1 rifle is permitted per participant per practice, no sharing the same rifle.
- As many ELR shooters are constantly upgrading their rifle systems, to be realistic and flexible, a participant may change the calibre they choose to shoot, but with the upgrade of a new calibre, reassessment of the target distance will be required.
- A participant may shoot from any position including prone, benchrest or tripod.
- Upon arriving at the range and registering for that specific practice’s league session, only 1 cold bore shot to warm up is permitted, this includes the cold bore shot if competing in the monthly GONG JOE 1km Cold Bore Club.
- For participants competing in the League, shooting sessions will begin following the GONG JOE 1km Cold Bore Club shoot.
- Just like we do with the GONG JOE 1km Cold Bore Club, participants that come late to a practice will be given a chance to still compete in both but will have to wait until the lead judge is available.
- As camaraderie is alway promoted at our ELR Program practices, assistance from other shooters to prepare for a participant’s shooting session is permitted, but no help is allowed once the session begins.
- The lead judge is one of the ELR Program Coordinators, being Stuart Antonenko, who will consult with other spotters should a hit be questionable. (When Stuart is shooting a designated spotter will be the lead judge).
- Based on the shooter’s experience and knowledge, the chosen distance must be agreed upon by the shooter and the lead judge. It’s important to understand that the league is designed to test you, not enable you to make an easy shot just to get points. So honesty is paramount as to how far you are able to accurately shoot consistently and what would be the next distance that would challenge you and your rifle system.
- Only a clear hit on the face of the target counts as a hit and must be witnessed by the lead judge, a flashing hit indicator does not guarantee a hit.
- If a participant hits 5 targets in a row, the accuracy based on the environmental conditions will be assessed and that shooter may have to move forward in the distance they are required to shoot at for the next practice. This will ensure honesty and that participants will always be challenged to reach out even farther as their skills advance throughout the year.
- We recognize that not everyone can make every practice throughout a 13 month period, so if you miss a practice you will be given a chance to shoot at the next practice to make up for the missed one within a specified format. Example: Joe missed the last practice, he will get 1 cold bore shot and his 5 allotted rounds for this month’s practice then will wait 20 minutes for the barrel to cool down. He will then get another 5 rounds to make up for the last practice he missed. However, should he hit with all of the first 5 rounds, for the second 5 rounds, he must shoot a target that is further to insure he is challenging himself. Again, this distance must be agreed upon by the lead judge.
- A participant is only allowed to make up for 1 missed practice at a time, if you miss 2 practices in a row the 2nd practice will be forfeited.
- The league will be suspended for 2 months as there are no practices in January or February, therefore at April’s 2027 practice, a 2nd session of shooting will be added with the format based on rule #15. In summary, there will be a total of 12 sessions available to any participant that joins the league in September/October 2026.
- All PG Rod & Gun Club rules and regulations apply and all participants must be members in good standing.

What’s new for our ELR (Extreme Long Range) Program for 2026? Lots! We have added a plethora of additional & upgraded equipment that is available for use at all ELR events. Construction has begun on the “Advanced Precision Platform” located to the right of the existing covered firing line, and will feature an additional TEN shooting lanes specifically for positional shooting practice off of various props. An additional 40x ar500 steel targets have been added down range, bringing the total to roughly 120 total targets from 200 meters, to nearly 1400 meters! New backstops for easier splash identification have been added behind most targets as well. Additional patch variants, and new competitions and challenges have become an integral part of our program, as our members continue to advance their long range precision capabilities. Additionally, we now offer TWO rental rifle packages (Centerfire: 6.5mm Creedmoor & Rimfire: 17 HMR) for those that wish to have an “ELR Experience” before making the investment into their own bolt-action rifle & equipment.

new for 2025!
You’ve probably seen on our social media, or maybe even heard from a friend or on the range, that the Centerfire section of PGRGC is launching their ELR Program. For most people, your first question is probably what the *bleep* is “ELR”? Good question! ELR is extended/extreme long range shooting. If you look online you’ll see lots of arguing as to what qualifies; less than two decades ago, and even recently, ELR was considered 1000 meters and beyond..
Today, with advancements in ballistic capabilities and bullet technology, it’s often considered starting at 1500 meters plus. Extended and extreme distance is actually relative to the caliber and the capabilities of the cartridge! ELR refers to the practice of shooting extremely long distances beyond what is considered “long range” shooting and requires a deep understanding of ballistics, specialized equipment, and precise calculations to hit a target accurately. Essentially, it’s shooting at the furthest possible distances with a firearm, pushing the limits of bullet trajectory and environmental factors.
The Prince George Rod and Gun Club offers an amazing and challenging range at our Blackwater facility that extends to 1400 meters and our ELR Program for all intents and purposes will not only reach out that far as well, but will also help shooters develop the skills required to reach beyond.
Please note that our ELR Program is for BOLT-ACTION RIFLES ONLY in both Centerfire and Rimfire cartridges. All calibers are welcome!

what does the elr program encompass?
Our ELR Program currently encompasses:
- Monthly ELR practices:
- ELR (Centerfire)
- ELR Rimfire
- 1000m Marksman Challenges
- Training classes
- Basic Intro to ELR
- How to Zero Your Scope
Monthly ELR Practices:
Starting in April 2025, we will be hosting monthly ELR practices. These will cover both centerfire & rimfire bolt-action rifles. Through the amazing support of our Foundation Sponsors, these practices will be FREE for 2025, plus we are able to provide an amazing selection of equipment and more and these practices for PGRGC members to sign out, and try out. Like any fun hobby, things can get expensive quickly, and with so many options on the market, and varying uses and shooter needs, it’s hard to know where to start. That’s why we have such a selection of equipment for you to try, before deciding what you should add to your own gear bags. In fact, if you’re new to this sport and not sure what you need, there’s actually only 3 things you have to bring yourself: your rifle, scope, and ammunition.
For our ELR practices, we invite everyone of any skill level to come be a part of this exciting initiative that will include the use and instruction of an incredible array of equipment and gear specifically related to ELR shooting. From optics, tripods, bipods, chronographs, Kestrels, shooting bags, prone shooting mats, gunsmithing tools, scope levelling systems and specialized targets, we have worked hard partnering with our “Foundation Sponsors” to bring to you the latest designs and models for 2025 that could forever change your shooting experience.
Every practice starts at 11:00am sharp at our Blackwater 1400m range with set up, sign in, and an orientation about the ELR Program and what exactly to expect for that day. Everyone in attendance is expected to help! Practices have a friendly no-pressure atmosphere, where a camaraderie is promoted amongst all the participants. And best of all, thanks to our sponsors, every practice is FREE including the use of all the amazing equipment and gear! Note, while practices do not replace the knowledge taught in our Basic Intro to ELR classes, they are a supplement and a great place to learn from or share with other shooters who vary in experience and skill. Practices are designed not only for those that are new to long distance shooting, but also to offer enough challenge to engage intermediate and advanced shooters too! Even if you’re not up to shooting at a practice, come out and hop behind one of our spotting scopes, and learn how to read wind, mirage, and help other shooters get on target quicker!

ELR Rimfire:
At all our ELR practices we have introduced an ELR Rimfire portion as well, for several reasons. Everything that goes into making a centerfire cartridge effective down range, are the exact same principles required for pushing a rimfire cartridge to its limits. Rimfires allow shooters to practice all the same fundamentals of trigger control, wind reading, and more, at a fraction of the cost of centerfire cartridges. They are also less tiring on the body after extended shooting sessions even in magnum sizes, since they lack the heavy recoil and concussion experienced with large bore rifles and magnum centerfire cartridges. Traditionally, official governing bodies such as NRL22, that offer competitions and leagues with rimfire, have been for 22LR only. This has left a huge untapped market for magnum rimfires, such as 17HMR, that are newer, considered more consistent, and are able to reach out to further distances. ELR Rimfire seeks to fill that gap, and allow ALL rimfire cartridges to stretch their legs, and test the limits of their capabilities. For 2025, we will have a wide selection of AR500 steel targets from one of our foundation sponsors, Gong Joe, in various shapes and sizes stretched from 100 meters, out to 500 meters.!

elr basic etiquette & safety rules
- Absolutely NO HANDLING FIREARMS unless instructed to do so
- Everyone must use a chamber flag in their firearm unless actively shooting (MDT flags provided at all practices). This includes “safe” rifles on the rifle racks.
- Anytime a “ceasefire” is called, or anytime before a rifle is removed from the firing line, the chamber must be empty, magazine removed (if equipped) and a chamber flag must be installed. No exceptions.
- Only bolt-action rifles may be used at ELR events and practices
- If it’s not yours, don’t touch it! Absolutely no handling of anyone’s gear or equipment other than you own, unless the owner gives you explicit permission
- All attendees, participants, and spectators must adhere to any and all commands or instructions given by on-duty RSOs (Range Safety Officers)
- ELR Program equipment and gear is available for all PGRGC members to use at practices only. All equipment and gear must be signed out & returned in the same condition by the member. You are responsible for anything you sign out.
- Any targets painted in YELLOW are strictly RIMFIRE ONLY. Anyone that purposely shoots a yellow rimfire target with a centerfire rifle, will be responsible for the cost of replacing that target.
- Attendees are expected to help set up, and clean up at practices, if applicable.
- Anyone that conducts themselves in an unsafe manner, will be ejected from the practice/event, and may not be allowed to return depending on the severity of the offense. Safety is our first priority, and must be observed at all times.
- Anyone that conducts themselves in an aggressive, or abusive manner will be ejected from the practice/event, and may not be allowed to return depending on the severity of the offense. There is no tolerance or room for “that guy” at our events and practices, so make sure to stay positive!

Challenge coins:
Would you like something to work towards? Or perhaps even show off, and brag about? Our ELR challenge coins are all of the above! 2” in diameter, solid metal, and presented in a fancy velour display box, they are quite the collectible!
1 Kilometer Cold Bore Club
Designed to be highly sought after, but hard to achieve, the 1 Kilometer Cold Bore Club vintage bronze challenge coins are serial numbered, and if earned, represent a marksman who has mastered what it takes to make the first shot count. This coin can only be earned at an ELR Practice, and must be the very 1st shot of the day for that participant. Any practice on the same day before the ELR Practice begins, disqualifies the participant from earning that coin on the same day. Only available at ELR practices, a special 10” x 10” round gong from our Foundation Sponsor “Gong Joe” will be hung at 1000 meters. This size equates to the equivalent of a sub-MOA target at a kilometer. Anyone that makes their 1st shot of the day, and successfully impacts this target, will earn the bragging rights, and be awarded a coin. All coins are serialized in consecutive numbers, and will be awarded as such.

1000m Marksman Challenge 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place
Pre-dating our ELR Program, these coins were originally designed as prizes for our 1st ever 1000m Marksman Challenge in October 2024, and are one of a kind for each Challenge event, with the month and date engraved on them. Presented in black velour box and awarded in vintage gold (1st Place), vintage silver (2nd Place), and vintage copper (3rd Place), these prizes are worth showing off and striving to earn!

elr program patches & variations:
Blue:
Derived from our original “Basic Intro to ELR” class logo, these high quality pvc patches (with velcro hook backing) are the evolution that brought about our official program logo. Selected in a rich blue, with a full-color and raised Canadian flag, this is the official logo of the ELR Program launched by the Centerfire Section of the Prince Goerge Rod & Gun Club. They may be purchased for $5 at ELR Program practices and events, as well as several official PGRGC events.

Greyscale:
This variation is a “subdued” rendering of our official logo. Only available to those that partake in a 1000m Marksman Challenge. If you see someone sporting a greyscale patch, then you know for sure that they are a “challenger”.
