PG Steel Shooters is a Section of the Prince George Rod and Gun Club. We shoot 2 related but distinct steel shooting disciplines.
Rimfire Challenge-PG
Rimfire Challenge-PG is our entry level competition. We use semi-auto .22LR handguns and rifles. No movement, no on-the-clock mag changes and no holsters. All firearms are brought to the firing line chamber flagged and cased. Starting position is loaded at the low ready. The targets are sets of 5-7 steel plates set-up in whatever pattern the Match Director chooses. All anyone needs to try this game is a reliable semi-auto .22LR handgun or rifle and 2-6 mags to fit.
Steel Challenge
Steel Challenge is very similar to RFCh-PG but with some very important differences. Steel Challenge stages and rules are set by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association, HQ’ed in the U.S. The stage layouts and procedures are the same everywhere SC is shot. Centerfire handguns and pistol caliber carbines are used as well as rimfire handguns and rifles. Centerfire handguns start in the holster while all other firearms start at the low ready.
Both games use a similar procedure; the participant engages the target array, their time and score is recorded. They do this 5 times in succession. The worst score is discarded and the best 4 strings are added together to determine the stage score.
Steel Shooting, whether Rimfire Challenge-PG or Steel Challenge, is an excellent introduction to competitive shooting. If you are interested in giving it a try, or you are not sure if your firearm is suitable, contact us at pgsteelshooters@pgrgclub.ca and we will help you figure it out.
